Biography

Angela is a dedicated healthcare provider for 20 years in rural underserviced, isolated, and semi-isolated Aboriginal communities across several Canadian provinces. She believes that people who live in the north generally have higher rates of chronic health conditions, poverty, and suicide.

She works in these challenging communities as a result of lived experience and cultural understanding to therefore accommodate the shortage of culturally appropriate health care providers in the medical profession, especially in these northern remote communities.

Angela fluently speaks the Cree language. She has been a promoter of health and community development, and has been involved in many volunteer organizations such as community events, provincial and national organizations i.e. previous board member for the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada and the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario. Over the past several years she has volunteered as a peer mentor, preceptor for both nursing and medical students. She remains a nursing ambassador for the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

Services offered & Areas of Care

To provide independent contract Nurse Practitioner services (Primary Health Care in First Nation communities in SK, MB & ON).
Health proposal development & establishing partnerships with appropriate research agencies and organizations to jointly fund priority research.
Continuing health education & training via e-Learning.
To provide advanced up-to-date interdisciplinary professional educational programming to health professionals, service providers, policy officials and the public on the management of diabetes in First Nation communities.
To provide leadership for the identification, design and implementation of healthy public policy for the management of diabetes in First Nation communities.
To provide health advice on: practice standards for nurses, health conditions/ailments, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
To provide consultation regarding Nurse Practitioner practice issues.
Provide leadership for the development of strategies to address barriers to practice including the development of position papers, responses to proposed legislation and new policy directions and reviews documents related to Nurse Practitioner practice.
